The Real Deal

Hellmann's

If you’ve been following my blog, you probably know about my deep-seated love for anything Hellmann’s, and especially their mayonnaise. We have a thing going alright.

I started using Hellmann’s when it was still unknown in the Netherlands. Heck, for the first two years I had it shipped to me from the US, while desperately trying to ignore the crazy shipping fee. Decadence comes with a hefty price. Now that’s true love, but then again; it’s the only mayo I’ll ever use. I once tried Miracle Whip but, ehhmm well, it was gross. Really gross. What a traumatic experience.

But then the chief-editor of Delicious Magazine NL, Makkie Mulder, tweeted a photo of a Hellmann’s jar with her name printed on the label, and she tagged me. Right. Green with envy I muttered that ‘you haven’t truly made it until you have your very own Hellmann’s jar’.

Guess what came in the mail! How cool is this? Oh yeah, I’m flaunting it, but really… can you blame me?

      Are you for real?!?
Can these be made up for anyone, or did you get one just through knowing the right people? :)
I’d kill for one of these jars with my name on!

      I <3 Mayo!

That’s so cute! It’s a shame I don’t really like Hellmans, I don’t mind using it for some sauces though!

My Mum and I bring as much Calve mayo as we can carry home to the UK whenever we get a trip over to the Netherlands! When I went with my boyfriends family, they did not understand my need to bring back a ton of mayonnaise, fritessaus, Chocomel and Liquorice!

      1. I eat fritessaus on fries but for my sauces and sandwiches only Hellmann’s!

Kay, I love the personalized jar! Hellmann’s is the ONLY true mayo. The others are just bland imitations! :)

Must Must Must find a way to order this for my sis-in-law. She won’t eat any mayo but Hellman’s and tries desperately to convert the rest of the world! (We both agree with you about the Miracle Whip.) Please, if you find a way to order this, let us know!

Although I love Hellman’s there’s an even better brand out there made In New Orleans. Blue Plate Mayo is made only with egg yolks not whole eggs like other brands. Please check out http://www.BluePlateMayo.com.
Absolutely love your blog and have tried many, many of your recipes…even bought The Cube!

      1. I don’t think I can buy that brand in the Netherlands! Is the flavour very different?

Honestly, the flavor is pretty much the same with Blue Plate being a bit thicker. Everyone in Louisiana is very loyal to Blue Plate. About 20 years ago Hellman’s tried to unseat BP here but couldn’t do it. If you see Duke’s Mayo over there, give it a try too.

Miracle Whip (yes, gross!) is not mayonnaise. BTW west of the Rocky Mountains, Hellman’s is sold under the brand name ‘Best Foods’.

I, too, would LOVE to have one of these. Hellmann’s mayonnaise is what my mom brought me up on and I cannot eat any other brand. So no, I do not blame you!

Hellman’s is in my blood:) My grandmother made the best cheeseburgers when I was growing up and she always put Hellman’s on it (no other brand would do) and Heinz Ketchup. To this day, that is how I eat my cheeseburgers and my husband now does the same! It is delicious. She would dip her french fries in Hellman’s and ketchup combined as well! Great fry sauce. This jar with your name on it is absolutely awesome! Love it!

Hellmans/Best Foods is the only mayonnaise I will eat. I love it. In fact I love it so much, that I wrote them a letter last year stating that I thought their quality control had slipped because I had bought several jars that just didn’t taste quite right. They wrote back to me and sent me four coupons to get free jars of mayonnaise. Which I thought was really great of them. But then a year later, I got a package from them for their 100 year anniversary, it had a spatula, a sandwich bag, and several other goodies with a letter thanking me for being a valued customer. What a great company. They have my loyalty for sure.

I am not a fan of store bought mayo, but my home made is not only ridiculously easy, it is unbelievable good! :)
