This photo is special to me—not just because it is telling, but because it captures what I feel is the essence of parenting.
Holding him -a firm hand on his back- until he feels certain enough to do it alone. Gently letting go when you think he is ready and can handle it. Enjoying the glow of pride on that little face once he realizes he’s been doing it by himself all along, but close enough to catch him when he falls.
