Soul Dust

Soul Dust

I almost forgot to share this recipe. My bad.

I’m always looking for a good dry rub and then I caught the last few minutes of an old Triple D episode (Guy Fieri), where the owner of a BBQ joint was making something that looked like the perfect rub to me. He then went ahead and messed it up by drizzling way too much honey on his ribs, but that aside.

No quantities were given, so I just gave it a go and tweaked until I had the perfect balance for me. It’s a flavourful sweet and salty rub with a mild kick and can be used on anything, but is especially good on ribs!

I already thought it tasted somewhat familiar but then it hit me; this one’s pretty close to the Dizzy dust all-purpose rub! Makes it even better.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup kosher salt
1/2 cup turbinado sugar
2/3 cup light brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
1 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
3 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoons freshly ground pepper
1 tbsp lemon pepper (Lawry’s of course!)
1/2 tbsp chili powder
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon ground cumin

Directions:

Easiest recipe, ever! Just combine all ingredients…
Soul Dust

Toss it all in a big bowl.
Soul Dust

That’s why I like making my own dry rubs; it just looks so cheerful.
Soul Dust

Mix it up well.
Soul Dust

And store it in an airtight container.
Soul Dust

I absolutely love this rub!
