We’ve gone through a rough time here these past few weeks. A very dear friend of mine, Sarah, lost her battle with breast cancer on May 11th. There are no words to describe the void she leaves behind and how loved she was and still is. We all miss her so much.
Our 5-year-old nephew lost his battle with cancer only 5 short days later. The pain this causes is enormous but we can only be glad he’s at peace now and is finally pain-free. I hope he can run and play again among the other angels, and secretly I hope Sarah took him by the hand and together they’re exploring all the neat places in heaven.
Know that saying: “Life goes on“?. Sadly, it does. We were never more aware of that than when we had to decorate the room for our little boy’s 5th birthday the night following his cousin’s death. I think we both went on auto pilot that night and the days afterwards.
Not celebrating his birthday came to mind, briefly. It would have been such a huge disappointment to our little boy, who looked forward to this big event for months, and we simply couldn’t bear to cancel it. We managed, he had a wonderful birthday and a smashing party with his friends from school the day after his birthday, and that’s all we really wanted.
When you lose someone, it becomes even clearer how short life really is and how quickly it moves. Life is just like a soap-bubble, live it as if you’re gone by dawn.
the whistle blows
love will follow
peace will overtake
tears will stain
the distant horizon
when ever you look behind you
