Frozen Berries With Hot Chocolate

July21-2011-01

I couldn’t suppress a smile when a friend of mine raved about this ‘special’ dessert she had eaten during one of her recent trips to London.

Frozen fruit with warmed up cream?“, I smirked. “You’re kidding, right? Oh, but that’s bound to be a real culinary triumph“, I said, trying my best not to sound too sarcastic but failing miserably.

She shrugged her shoulders, waved her hand and said that when she ordered it, she couldn’t believe something so easy could taste this fantastic either. That I didn’t have to take her word for it, but should at least try it for myself before shooting it down.

I agreed with her. Shame on me.

So here we are…

Ingredients:

1 cup strawberries
1 cup raspberries
1 cup blueberries
5 tbsp heavy cream
3 oz white chocolate

Optional: 1/8 tsp vanilla extract (I didn’t feel it needed it)

Directions:

It’s no rocket science, really. I’ve never made an easier dessert, aside from pulling a pint of Ben & Jerry’s from the freezer, that is.

Clean the fruit. Slice the bigger strawberries in half or even in four and place it all on a non-stick pan or cookie sheet, or use baking paper to prevent the fruit from sticking to the bottom.

Put it in the freezer and leave it there for at least 4 to 5 hours. Until solidly frozen.

Combine the heavy cream with the chocolate and either melt it au bain marie, or use your microwave. A minute and a half at full-power will do, just stir now and then.

Pour the hot chocolate sauce over the frozen berries and serve immediately. That’s all, folks.

And let me tell you what: I can’t think of enough superlatives to describe this incredible dessert! I should have known it would be good because my Raspberry & Caramel Nirvana is already crazy good, but this… this is heaven.

The hot chocolate will soften the frozen fruit. It’s a simply divine and utterly irresistible combination.
