In my perennial search for the perfect smoothie, I stumbled upon this combination! Turns out to be the perfect breakfast.
As much as I like the Tangerine Dream and Jayden’s Smoothie; I just need more fibres to get me through the morning. So I’ve added something I normally don’t care much for; muesli. Plain, unsweetened muesli (with dried fruit) works like a charm when combined with fresh fruit, yogurt and milk. On it’s own I honestly wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole.
The smoothie is packed with vitamins and fibres but with the flavor of a normal smoothie and just a little texture. Bingo! Now I could have named it “Purple Passion“, or even “Magenta Magic” would have done, but come on, it’s just liquid breakfast. So here’s a novel idea, why don’t I name it “Breakfast Smoothie“:)
Ingredients:
1/2 to 1 banana
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup low-fat yogurt
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
4 tbsp muesli
1 cup milk
optional: sugar or honey
optional: ice cubes
directions:
Where would I be without my blender? Got a great bargain on a Philips juicer a few days ago (bought it 60% off retail price), keep it on the kitchen counter right next to the blender now and use fresh juice in smoothies. Magic in a glass, I tell ya. But anyway, I digress!

Depending on how thick you like the smoothie, add 1/2 to 1 banana and 1/2 a cup blueberries.

Pour in 1/2 cup (low fat) yogurt.

I also threw in 1/4 tsp vanilla extract for a little extra flavor. You can also add a little extra sugar or honey if you like it sweet. I love the natural sweetness of the berries so I never add sugar.

I know that many people like it, but I’ve never cared for it much. Muesli with dried fruit. It just looks like horse feed to me, really, I can’t help it. You won’t catch me eating a bowl of this with milk, but when it’s pulverized in a blender I actually like it.
tip: you can also do this with rolled oats, tried that as well!

I couldn’t get my munchkin to eat muesli if his life depended on it, but, I found out that not telling him works really well. It’s even considered ‘yummy‘ that way. No, that’s not lying, it’s just a slightly more creative version of truth!
Ok, I know the photo is completely not food related, but really, can you blame me for sqeezing it in? Love, love, love that gorgeous little face. So does he! Poster child for self-love, I swear.

I’ve added 4 tbsp muesli. You can also throw in a few ice cubes if you like. I’m skipping them—only have to look outside (15F) and that’s all the ice I need for now.

Pour in 1 cup of milk.

Blitz, blitz, blitz for about 45 to 60 seconds. Until everything has blended well and the muesli has been pulverized.

This is really a simple and fast breakfast, but so packed with flavor and fibre, it’s a meal in itself. Don’t you love the wicked purple color!?!

When it comes to my kiddo’s eating habits, I really can’t complain. However, there’s one thing he absolutely dislikes. Fruit. Amazing, isn’t it? I thought kids took to fruit naturally? Guess not. Aside from apples and an occasional grape, he’ll simply refuse to eat any kind of fruit unless it’s mashed, blended or incorporated into something. Now for a short while I wasn’t even all too unhappy about that – this was…
