Pray the Rosary

J-man’s been fascinated by religion ever since he went to school. He goes to a Catholic school. The questions he asks are tough—sometimes even impossible—to answer, but seeing religion through a child’s eyes sheds a whole new light on the concept of ‘faith’, that’s for sure.

Even though he has a children’s bible that he almost knows inside and out and loves the stories, we never really felt it ‘lived’ for him until he started attending school.

I honestly didn’t think he had much of an idea what he was doing during praying and since I don’t feel comfortable leading him through a religious ritual he doesn’t fully comprehend, plus I feel religion is a personal relationship you have with God that develops (or doesn’t in some cases) overtime, I left it at that.

Suffice to say I was surprised when I discovered one of my rosaries was missing and I found him sitting on the couch with it, holding a bead between his tiny fingers.

I asked him what he was doing and really couldn’t help but chuckle at the answer.

I’m praying, mom“, he said. “I just asked God if he could bring back the dinosaurs. But only the ones that eat plants“.

Yup. That’s my boy.

Oh, that sounds so familiar. Those questions! “Who’s God, mom? What does he look like? Does he live on the moon? Why do some people believe and other people don’t? How was the earth created? Was it created? What do you believe? Why? Did cauliflower just grow out of nothing or did someone put it here? Why would someone? I don’t like cauliflower. I think God lives on the moon. Or in my heart. I kind of like that idea.”

Yeah, that was just part of the conversations here lately :)

Great pictures of your little boy. Cute!

Did God make everything? Well did God make this cookie? Those are the kind of questions we’re getting from our 4 yo twins.
Your son is beautiful. I love your photos of him.
