Photoshop: haze

When someone asked me what steps she’d have to take in order create the ‘haze thing’ in her photography she liked so very much, I told her it was so utterly simple I’d be more than happy to slap up a quick tutorial. Though ‘tutorial’ really is an overstatement.

Here’s how you add a haze to your photo in exactly 1.6 seconds.

Texel. It was so gorgeous there. Especially when you stood on the beach and watched the dense grey clouds cover the country like a big fluffy blanket, that somehow magically disappeared as soon as it reached the waddenzee.

All you have to do to add a little haze is create a new adjustment layer at the bottom of your layers palette. Choose Levels from the menu.

Drag the output levels to the right to add the haze. For this photo 50 was precisely enough. And that’s all.

As a finishing touch I ran my light web vignette action, that you can download here. Could have been a dark vignette as well.

It’s really simply, isn’t it? If you’re into this kind of editing, this should help you haze to your heart’s content! You can also use this technique to ‘fade’ any kind of background photos you’ll be using to decorate your Christmas cards with.

Between you and the folks at White on Rice Couple I’ll finally figure out how to use my camera and Photoshop! Thanks as always.

Thanks for the tip. I’ve been into hazy and antique-y photos lately, though I’m not sure it works with a lot of food.

Kay, you are so clever, I never stop admiring your photography and your recipe blog (and I am a Raw Foodie even!!). I was wondering how do you create a beutiful designer border for photos, like the 3 pictures of your smoothie, your boy and a castle have in your Home page? Would LOVE it if you could share! xxTanya
