Odd Photos

Filed under: Home,Photography,sundry — Tags: , , — Kay @ 1:07 pm

intro

I have a thing for slightly odd photos. Weird angles, bad composure, movement blurs, slightly out of focus; I’m all for it. It brings a photo to life.

You know, the type of photography that just doesn’t make sense no matter how long you look at it. Looking longer often makes them even worse. The photos with people in it where only part of their body shows, often without head. Completely strange angles. The shots with half a face or even when most of a person is out of focus. Somehow those are the photos I like to look at.

Especially when they’re processed in a way that really adds to the craziness of the shot. B&W works, with an old newspaper kind of feel to it. Like this photo: it doesn’t make sense at all, yet it’s my favorite photo of 2010.

I like imperfections. Perfection is boring to me. Especially in photography.

What weird kind of photography do you like? Oh come on, surely there has to be something!

    I actually really like the odd blur of light. I like how it seems to truly capture a fleeting moment.

    I like sun spots (on occasion)–I feel like they add a magical touch to the photo.

    @Jenna:

    I know what you mean. I love sun flares and sun spots so much that I created actions to either fake them in a photo or emphasize them!

    Have you seen/tried lomography? It used to be an underground cultish art form of photography but has gotten a little mainstream now. (There’s even an app for it.) Still, I enjoy it – you point and shoot and you’re not really ever sure how it’s going to turn out. I love the surprise of it!

    Sometimes I just love to blur/streak a moving object so it looks like it left a colorful trail.  I really enjoy odd angles and close ups…to the point of what is that?

    I don’t think the first photo is odd at all (the second doesn’t quite know where it wants to go) but then again, my aesthetics are rather similar to yours.

    Embrace imperfection! It makes the best of almost anything in life… :)
