Nemo in a Bowl

Quick shot taken right before we rushed him and his 30 Nemo treats to school.

In case you need another idea for a school birthday treat, here’s what we did. I completely stole the idea from a friend, who herself found this idea online the year before, so it’s only fair I pass it onto you.

Find a few color pages online (Google has a lot of them: google Nemo color page and the first one that pops up is the one I used. Find or draw some simple water plants and an orchid, or any other type of flower. Use photoshop or other editing software to give Nemo his orange color.

Drag a pink and white gradient all over the orchid and color the tips of the flower yellow. Color the plant green and add some yellow curvy stripes here and there. Print them (you can fit 6 of each item on a piece of paper) and cut them out, this will be most of the work.

Buy a set of disposable ice cream cups with lid and get yourself some bright blue crepe paper that will function as the ocean. I bought tiny bags of popcorn—giving my kid food dyes sends him bouncing off the walls–wrapped them in the blue paper, placed Nemo, the orchid and plants in there and closed the lid. Voila, you’re done.

It was a huge hit at school.

    Cool!  You’re so full of great ideas.  I’ve never seen these ice cream cups before, though.  BTW, that looks like a water lily ;)

    You’re right! Just bought orchids (they’re my favorite flowers) so had them on my mind :)

    It wasn’t my idea, though, I just borrowed it!
