Lawry’s Heaven!

It was somewhere around 5:45pm today—we had just finished a fancy dinner of skillet baked potatoes, fish sticks and peas & carrots (sick kid’s choice)—when the doorbell rang. Package delivery! I took the package, looked at it and that’s when it happened…

“I had died and gone to Lawry’s heaven!”.

A few weeks ago I noticed something disturbing; my lemon pepper stash was shrinking at a rapid pace. Tried to locate some online, but it was nowhere to be found. Tried a handful of American web-stores but them evildoers wouldn’t ship to the Netherlands, including the Lawry’s web-store. Slowly I was panicking. Separate me from my lemon pepper and really bad things happen.

So, I emailed McCormick, told them Lawry’s was my crack and asked them if they knew a good dealer. I’m so classy sometimes. Somehow my email ended up with their global export division and imagine my surprise when they replied to me with some devastating news. Lawry’s was still not offered for sale in my country at the current time. But… and here it comes; they took pity on me and would send me a few complimentary bottles.

I could not believe it took DHL only two days to deliver this package to my door. Seriously, our domestic postal service takes almost twice as long.

Why, oh why, can’t we buy this stuff here? I can buy their seasoned salt, but that’s about it. Just the cheerfulness of the jars would be enough for me to start collecting them. Look at them!

These three babies are a huge staple in our house ever since I first tasted them, years ago now. Especially their lemon pepper stole my heart. There’s just nothing like it. Tried different brands, but this one is it for me.

This particular seasoning was new to me. Tasted it and I can already tell you I’ll be using this in our latest favorite sandwich. And in lots of other recipes as well. What do you use it for?

Garlic pepper? Brilliant invention! I’m a garlic pepper virgin. This is so unlike anything you can buy here.

We have these packages as well, so I’m dying to find out the difference between the Dutch and American versions.

This garlic spread is nothing short of an inspiration. Oh, think of all the garlic & cheese bread I’ll be making with this.

A huge bottle of Lawry’s French Fry Seasoning Ranch Flavor. Love the name, love the flavor. Can see myself using this on just about anything potato. Are there other ways to use this seasoning I have to know about?

These jars deserved a really special place in my kitchen. Lawry’s shouldn’t be stashed away in the dark corners of a fusty kitchen cabinet. That’s fundamentally wrong.

I think I have to open my own Lawry’s store here in the Netherlands because I have to spread the love. The Dutch must be told about this. It’s crazy, we’re the experts when it comes to claiming land from water, but when it comes to adding some garlic to a frickin bottle of pepper, we’re clueless.

All kidding aside… muchas gracias to McCormick for helping a Dutch girl maintain her American addiction. I really appreciate the generous gesture!  No, this is not a product review because seriously guys, Lawry’s just doesn’t need that.

Haha, in germany you can’t even get the seasoned salt, but my friend went to LA the other week and I told her to bring me a jar of the salt – she brought three (3!) economy sized (economy! sized!) jars! heck yes! happy cooking!

First time I hear about that store! Lawry’s lemon pepper is so different from other brands, it’sa highly addictive. But the kruidenboter mix is something I’m still after as well, so gonna check out the site. thanks for the link!

*huge grin* That’s the one thing I always keep around … economy sized Lawry’s seasoned salt. So glad I can at least buy that.

It’s too bad they didn’t send you any seasoned pepper. I use it on steaks often but it’s just perfect on tillapia cooked in a little olive oil or on stir fried zucchini and squash.

Oh Kay you lucky girl. We don’t get half those Lawry’s things here. I didn’t even know they existed. Now I am going to have to drive down to Bellingham and search them out!

Lemon pepper is available in Sweden. I’m not sure if it differs from the American one, but we have it … just saying should you ever run out again …

I agree with Jacqueline. I am an avid Lawrys seasoning salt user. I put it on everything. But I have never seen half of these products either and I live in the US. But better believe I am going to start looking for them immediately. I’m also going to try that lemon pepper. Thanks for enlightening me on their products. And I can’t wait to see how you use them

Score! I highly recommend Penzeys as well as The Spice House for mail order spices, but if you run into a bind again with some of these products that you want more of, let me know and I’ll be happy to mail them to you! (This is in return for Netherlands tour guide services to be rendered at a later date!)

Kay, it’s been my experience that Lawry’s seasonings, especially their seasoned salt, seasoned pepper, and garlic salt are the best all-purpose seasonings available. Lawry’s was recently bought by McCormick/Schilling after Unilever decided to sell that part of their business, so I hope that their seasonings are more widely distributed than before. I especially have a fondness for Lawry’s since I received a complimentary set of seasoned salt and seasoned pepper as a birthday gift after having been treated to dinner at Lawry’s–the Prime Rib restaurant here in Chicago some years ago. I later found out that Mr. Lawry, who founded the restaurant (which is part of a chain of a several restaurants), was the first to develop the special blend of herbs, spices, and salt which we find so indispensable.

Love my Lawry’s here in Canada too…and the fact that they don’t use MSG is bonus! Will be on the lookout for the other varieties.

Yup, and the message we Dutchies see at the checkout is this:

    “Important Message

Lawry’s Seasoned Salt, 16 oz * Economy Size cannot be shipped to the selected address”

    We’re the outcasts :)

I kind of tried an Amsterdam address (I used Hotel Aalborg address – stayed there during my visit to Amsterdam last year), and pretend that I am placing an order for Lawry's Lemon Pepper on Amazon. The message I got is this:

    "Important Message

Please note that your country may charge import duties, taxes and fees that you may have to pay ahead of delivery."

So maybe an Amsterdam address might work? They probably do not ship to Gouda.

My Amsterdam 'pretend' order is showing a s&h charge of $45.92 for 1 qty order of the Lawrys, Lemon Pepper, 2.25-Ounce (12 Pack).
