I realize that I came across this late, but I had to share - as I was scrolling through your delicious looking prize package, I got down to the hagelslag and very nearly started crying! I grew up in Soesterberg (my dad was stationed there when it was still a USAF facility), and nearly all of my childhood memories are wrapped up there. Seeing favorite weekday breakfast caught me off guard for the flood of sentiment that washed over me...how about that for the power of packaging? Thanks for the run down memory lane!

@Mamatini:

Definitely will be doing a similar giveaway again. Didn't think about appelstroop, muisjes and all that stuff either. It'll be fun to make different packages every now and then.

Hmmm the cheese. Might even get away with it if I have them vacuum seal it.

Oh, I'm so disappointed to have missed a give-away!! So many of the things you listed would have been on my request list, especially: borrelnootjes (the best beer/bar food), hagelslag (muisjes would have been good too), fritesauce (because it is NOT mayonnaise!), drop (mmm, salty), and of course stroopwaffles.

If you ever need suggestions for another giveaway, I desperately miss siroop (cassis especially) and can't find it in the U.S. at all. Of course I miss other things (vanille vla and cheese) but they probably wouldn't ship very well...

Thanks for conjuring up wonderful memories of my four teen-aged years in Noord Brabant!

I haven't been to the Netherlands, but I'm coming next year! My partner is Dutch and we'll be bringing our baby (when it arrives in January!) to meet all his friends and family. Can't wait! Love spending time at his parents place for the Hagelslag on bread... mmm, reminds me of being a kid in South Africa with our Dutch neighbours. Yummy!
And don't get me started on Stroopwafels.... love 'em!
Thanks!

Never been out of the U.S. You know I really don't know what
is a specialty food here in Kansas. But if you were to ask where
I grew up in Northern Minnesota..hands down it is Potica, Pasti's
and Wild Rice......love all three!!

I LOVE YOUR COUNTRY. And your site! I am an American born in the wrong country, all I want is a tiny apartment in Amsterdam and a little red rowboat. When I visit, I am usually on a bit of a budget, so pancakes are in my diet every day, with a little bit of powdered sugar. I always bring home several boxes of Hagelslag for the kids who love putting chocolate on their toast. I'm coming back in November for Museumnacht, can't wait!

My husband is Dutch and loves goodies from Holland. I've tried quite a few things, but not all that you mention. I'd love to share a goody bag with him! He's been to Holland twice, but I've never been.
