One of my favorite things, when it comes to photography, is capturing everyday things. Things you in all probability walk past every single day without giving them a second glance. And that’s a shame.
Like this photo of the street light behind my house. See the beauty in the glass and icicles glistening in the sun, while the blue sky surrounds it and the snow-covered leafs frame it. You won’t see it unless you look up.
Do you ever look up at the sky?
Now, the adrenaline rush of standing outside in a t-shirt in 25F weather is something else alright. It’s awesome and is exactly what I did to take this (quick) shot of that same street light late at night. We’ve got a little moon action going on as well.

Just your camera, your eyes and the world around you. It’s really all you need. Whether you’re in France, America, Kathmandu or Antarctica, it really doesn’t matter. Well okay, so maybe Antarctica is a bit of a stretch, but you catch my drift, right?
You can find beauty in an old, rusty, and worn-out door lock.

Or in how the snow touches your fence.

Or simply the foliage in your garden. Although there’s nothing simple about foliage. There’s only a word in Latin that describes the heartrending beauty of nature: amoenum.

Heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine
Oh, I heard it through the grapevine
Oh, I’m just about to lose my mind
Honey honey, yeah!

Sorry ‘bout that. I love me some Creedence Clearwater Revival. And Marvin Gaye.
Bokeh alone can be gorgeous. These are the trees in our across-the-street neighbor’ front yard. Shot this photo through my kitchen window, late at night.

Bokeh shots are my favorite cell phone backgrounds.
Here are said trees, with snow and lights. Talk about a delicate fairytale look.

You see, there’s no right or wrong. There’s so much beauty in knowing you’re not letting your 4-year-old grow up to be a slacker.

Work boy work, I say! Oh come on, it’s about time the kid starts to carry his own weight around here.
But what I really want to tell you is this: photography is all about showing people the world through your eyes. So why not show it to them? Show them your world. The only thing you’re limited by is your own imagination, everything else is already there.
May we always see the beauty all around us.

I have been doing the same! - I have pics of our street light with icicles, taken yesterday evening!
11:03? You’re in Gouda- I’m in Katwijk. HUH? It’s an hour earlier here!
@Vanessa:
Thanks for pointing it out. Noticed my wordpress timezone was set to +2 :)
Fixed it!
I’m at my parents’ in Germany and there’s wonderful snow, too but the weather is very grey and not really suitable for photography. I hope it clears up a bit so you can actually see some details.
I’m also annoyed I didn’t think of bringing the long lens for the birdies on the feeder. :/
@Karohemd:
It’s really grey here today, too. I’m really starting to like that telelens I bought, it’s sharp as a tack!
I agree with you on the beauty of the ordinary. I’m partial to snow and ice pictures, myself. Here in the Pacific Northwest of the US however, grey is the prevailing background. The grey sky and the tall evergreen trees dull the lighting so much it’s hard to share even the prettier things. But at least I can appreciate them and give myself a smile!
L♥ve your pictures! Especially the rusty door lock shot :)
I must say I look up at the sky a lot. I love ogling at blue skies and white clouds too much!
