Ask and Ye Shall Receive

I was thinking….

My site needs a little more interaction in the food department. How about a special recipe request section? It’ll be a fun challenge for me as well!

Looking for a long-lost European recipe? Want to cook that one specific Dutch dish you ate while vacationing here or perhaps a wonderful Indonesian dish—I make a killer rijsttafel—or any other recipe you don’t know how to cook or what ingredients to use for, chances are I can lend you a helping hand. If not, we can find out together. Maybe  one of the other readers can even chime in.

Just drop me a line right here, explain what it is you’re looking for and I’ll try my best to come up with a tried and true recipe for you. Provided I actually know a recipe or can blackmail bribe one of my friends into giving up one of theirs.

Just keep in mind that I want everyone—regardless of where on God’s green earth they live—being able to make my recipes without going on a wild witch-hunt all over town trying to track down rare ingredients. I’ll check the request section on a regular basis, pick out a random recipe now and then and turn it into a photo posting.

I’m hosting a gathering this summer for 12 women and was thinking tapas? Problem is I don’t know how to make any of them – but LOVE going out to eat them :)

So, I have asked you this before – I really miss Indonesian food since we have moved to Chicago. The closest Indonesian restaurant is 3,5 hours away. You said that you don’t want to post recipes because the stuff is not readily available – well – I am coming to Holland in two weeks. Could you tell me which spices I should stock up on and where do you get your recipes for Indonesian food? Ik spreek ook nederlands dus het moet niet op engels!
Also for a Dutch recipe I really, really miss – I LOVE the kip kerry pikant salade from Albert Heijn. I used to be totally addicted to it. It’s much more creamy than the ones from other places. Is there a way you could re-create it?
Oh and also I miss ontbijtkoek – specially the caramel one, do you have a recipe for that?
How is that for ideas ;-)

Whenever I visit Holland, I always fly back with a suitcase full of dutch treats, one of which is the yummy ‘Honig Mix voor Kapucijners’. I can find kapucijners where I live (there’s probably also a good substitute), but I would love to have a home-made version of the mix. Maybe you can help??  Also, when in Sneek, we always get oranjekoek (my absolute favorite) but may be too difficult to make at home?  Love the site Kay!!!

How about a cold pasta salad.  I usually end up making the same kind every time.  Or, I’d love a shrimp dish.  Living in Florida, we have shrimp quite often.  Thanks!!

      Hoi Kay,
Een lekker rijsttafel recept zou heerlijk zijn! Ik woon nog wel in Nederland, dus als je de Nederlandse ingrediënten erbij zou kunnen geven (evt. met een Engels equivalent), heel graag. Leuke site, ga zo door!

      Hi Kay,
I’ve recently moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where we have a vibrant Asian community.  I’d like to recreate some top-notch Asian dishes at home.  Can you help?

I think this is a wonderful idea!  Do you have a good pasta carbonara recipe you’re willing to share?  I would love to be able to get your take on it!

OOH, I forgot!  Also, I’m DYING for a great chicken marsala recipe.  I love to see your take on that one as well.  Probably more than the pasta carbonara :) I love chicken marsala.

I’m with Puffs, a pasta carbonara recipe would be great and how about chicken a la king? I hate to say this this, but I tried a “frozen” meal of chicken a la king and enjoyed it, but have never found a recipe that tastes the same or similar.

      @Helga:

Oh show your rijsttafel recipes! I live in Canada but there is a Dutch store close to my house so I have ketjap, sambal, and kroekpoek in my cupboards. I would love a good sate/pindasaus recipe. Thanks

There’s a really good chicken dish at a restaurant called “The cheesecake factory” called “Chicken di Pana”  I love it!  It looks like they took chicken breasts, pounded them to 1/2″ (or less) thin and then battered and fried them.  Then they serve it with a white wine butter cream sauce.  Super yummy with mashed potatoes and some veggies. :)  They also have “corn succotash” which I love!  It’s corn, zucchini, and red bell pepper diced together and roasted.  YUM!

Do you have a recipe for a soup called “Funeral Soup”  All I know is it is sort of like chicken dumplings but thicker.  It is so yummy.  Someone use to make it at my work but couldn’t come up with a recipe.  UGH….i still think about it.

      Great idea!

My number one would be if you had any spring roll recipes up your sleeve. I’m talking the deep fried/baked variety (not the lovely vegetarian fresh paper ones) We have folks from Laos in the family that used to make them for every gathering. Sadly, we lost touch years ago, and I still think about those spring rolls! Best I can tell they had those transparent noodles and pork in them… beyond that, I’m clueless! But oh, were they good!!!

I also second the request for a chicken marsala recipe, as well as your take on marinara sauce.

      You’re awesome Kay!!

oh, I can’t wait to see your chicken marsala with the hint of peach. That sounds delicious.  I love learning how to make international dishes that aren’t too common in America (outside the big cities), so any Dutch or Indonesian recipes sound intriguing, also because I live in small town Germany, currently, and to be honestly, there is not a whole lot of variety if you want something other than German or Italian food.  I love your site and the ease at which you incorporate veggies into delicious recipes.
